Best Pull Up Bar For Apartment

Apartments are one of the worst places for fitness enthusiasts like me. There’s just not enough space for equipment!

This was the problem I faced when I moved into our new apartment with my wife. Both of us are keen on working out, and living in such a constrained space made it very tough to fit what was needed. We were looking for a way to accommodate more in less space.

And then one day our neighbor gave us a brilliant idea, and this helped us to turn our doorways into multi-function gyms. Well…sort of.

Doorway pull-up bars were something we had heard of but never really used, but once we got the hang of it, pull-ups became one of our favorite ways to get a quick but intense workout. And today, I’m here to help you do the same.

Howdy! I’m Michael, and I want to share with you my list of the best pull-up bars for apartments. And to make the choice even easier, I’ve included a buyers’ guide at the end that can help you pick the right product.

So, let’s not dally any longer and begin our journey.

Feierdun Doorway Pull-Up Bar

The first brand that I’d like to introduce you to in this category is Feierdun. With over two decades of experience under their belt, Feierdun is one of those brands that have made a name for themselves in the fitness space. And this doorway pull-up bar is yet another stellar product from their banner.

What I Like

The product itself is made of stainless steel, which makes the item durable and robust enough to withstand up to 440 pounds of weight. The length can be customized to fit any door frame, which allows me to use it anywhere on-the-go.

But the best thing that I like about this product is the patented attachment mechanism, which can attach itself to any door frame. No need to drill holes or make any permanent attachments, just adjust the length and get working. The soft anti-skid PVC mats protect the frame on both sides and also ensure your safety as you work out. The product is customized for most standard doorways, and the portable nature makes it easy to store and carry.

And finally, I’d like to mention that this device is perfect not only for pull-ups but also for a range of other exercises. I’ve tried doing crunches, chin-ups, and leg raises with the device, and all of it has worked perfectly for me.

What I Don’t Like

This is more of a caution than a negative point. The product is rather sturdy and exerts a considerable force on the surface to which it is attached. Therefore, make sure that you don’t use it on glass or hollow door frames, as they might get damaged. Other than that, this product is excellent for home workouts.

Pros:

  • Sturdy stainless steel build.
  • Adjustable length.
  • Patented attachment mechanism.

Cons:

  • Not usable on weak door frames.

Verdict

At such an affordable price, this is one of the best workout equipment that you can get for your apartment. Durable, portable, and adjustable, this is the perfect device for multiple workout regimes. Just choose any doorway and begin your workout; what could be simpler than that!

Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar

The next product that I have for you is from the house of Iron Gym, and this is one of my personal favorites. The entire device is extremely versatile and allows me to do a range of exercises, pull-ups included. But that’s not the only reason I like this product, as you’re about to find out.

What I Like

Multi-function pull-up bars are almost always costly, but this product offers an excellent option at an affordable price. I have used it to sculpt my upper body, and I am pleased to say that I am delighted with the results. Whether you’re doing chin-ups, pull-ups, or abdominal work, this is one of those devices that score on every account.

The bar is fitted with foam grips and provides three gripping positions for use in multiple exercise regimes. Also, it uses leverage to hold against the doorway, so there’s no need for using screws or other implements for a permanent attachment. Just fix the device, and you can start your workout.

Finally, I must mention the durable build that allows me to use it without worrying about breakage. Usually, I am known for working my gym equipment mercilessly, but I’m happy to say that this product has withstood everything I threw at it, and then some.

What I Don’t Like

I’m not the kind of person to complain, but I think a 300 pounds weight range is a bit too low for those with a bulky build. Nevertheless, for those within that weight limit, this device can be a good asset.

Pros:

  • Allows multiple exercises.
  • Multiple grip positions.
  • Sturdy, portable build.

Cons:

  • Only 300 pounds weight range.

Verdict

Whether it’s the comfort factor or the quality, I feel that this product does not cut any corners when it comes to customer satisfaction. And even though the weight range is a bit low, the product more than compensates for it by offering multiple grip positions with foam-padding. Portable and durable, this is one pull-up bar that can turn your home into a perfect gym.

ProSourceFit Easy Gym Doorway Pull-Up Bar

ProsourceFit is a renowned manufacturer of fitness products, and when I came across their pull-up bar, I had to try it out. And I’m glad to say that the results have been more than satisfactory. For complete upper body workouts, this device can be one of your best companions.

What I Like

If you are looking for an affordable way of toning the upper body at home, this is the product for you. The device is constructed with premium-grade steel to withstand intense workout sessions and fits most standard doorways with ease. Also, it has multiple grip positions that allow me to work on my muscles from different angles.

Another very nifty feature that I like in this product is that it allows you the option of both temporary as well as a permanent attachment. This means that if you want, you can fix the device at any location permanently using the optional J brackets, which are included with the product.

And as for workout variety, the multiple grip positions allow me to perform a range of exercises with the device. So for anyone looking for that perfect upper body, this product can be the ideal choice.

What I Don’t Like

Again, the 300-pound weight range seems a bit low for heavy-weight exercisers. I would love it if the manufacturers took it upon themselves to bring out a new version that had an increased weight capacity. That would make my day.

Pros:

  • Premium grade steel construction.
  • Compatible with most standard doorways.
  • Multiple grip positions.

Cons:

  • Low weight range.

Verdict

Apart from the low weight range, there’s nothing wrong with this product. I found it to be of great use, both in terms of quality and portability. Just be careful that you don’t overstress it, and you’re good to go. And do remember it can only be used with doorways 24 to 36 inches wide.

Ikonfitness Pull-Up Bar

Ikonfitness is a relatively new entrant on the fitness circuit, but the brand has already made a name for itself with its stellar products. And like all Ikonfitness products, this pull-up bar too is an extensively tested and affordable product. Don’t believe me? Just read on to know more.

What I Like

After the last two products which were good but lacked in the weight department, I’m delighted to finally bring you a product which has a 440 pounds weight range. About eight inches higher than most competing products due to its raised bar design, this device provides ultimate stability.

One of the most problematic things I’ve faced with pull-up bars is that regular ones usually give you blisters on the hands. But as it is equipped with high-quality foam grips, this product doesn’t have that problem.

Also, it’s incredibly portable and doesn’t require any extra assembly for use; just unpack, choose a door frame, and begin your workout. The heavy-duty design of the bar makes sure it doesn’t move from its place, and the rigid and stable construction makes this a product well worth the investment.

What I Don’t Like

There’s nothing to complain about such an excellent product, and apart from the slightly steep price, I haven’t found anything that can stop you from making the purchase. I’ll only be wasting your time if I tried to find fault with this device.

Pros:

  • High-quality construction.
  • Foam grips for increased comfort.
  • Weight limit of 440 pounds.

Cons:

  • Slightly steep price tag.

Verdict

I’d say go for it, without a doubt. This product ticks all the right boxes, and is perfect for multiple exercise regimes; also, it takes care of the safety and comfort factors well. And if you are all right with shelling out a few extra bucks, then this is the one to go with.

Yes4All Doorway Pull-Up Bar

The final item on the list is from Yes4All, a brand I’ve reviewed before, and one which has never let me down. And this pull-up bar keeps to the standard of the brand in more ways than one. Just read on to find out.

What I Like

Heavy gauge steel construction makes this product one of the best in the market in terms of durability, and the multiple padded grip positions provide added comfort and versatility. I found this product to be perfect for complete upper body workouts (it’s worked wonders for my lats).

The device can fit doorways from 28 to 33 inches and is suitable for any standard door frame. The versatile construction allows a variety of exercises to be performed, and the device also allows one to increase the intensity of the workouts. And it comes with door frame guards, therefore doesn’t require any drilling for installation.

What I Don’t Like

In such an excellent product, I’d have been only too happy to see a better weight range. But this device has a weight capacity of 300 pounds, and that’s something I’d like to see increased. Also, the instructions for assembly were a bit ambiguous.

Pros:

  • Easy to install and use.
  • Heavy gauge build.
  • Provides versatility of workouts.

Cons:

  • Ambiguous assembly instructions.

Verdict

Affordable, durable, and well suited for most, this product lends itself wonderfully to my workouts. And I’m sure it’ll do the same for you.

Choosing The Best Pull-Up Bar- The Only Guide You Need To Succeed

So now you know about the best pull-up bars that can be used in any apartment. However, don’t go choosing any product on a whim. Multiple factors come into consideration when selecting a pull-up bar, and you’ll have to know them before making a decision.

But don’t get scared, for I’ve gone ahead and made the job easier for you! The following buyers’ guide is your ultimate resource for all the factors that you need to keep in mind while purchasing a pull-up bar.

Let’s check ’em out.

The Bar Material

Pull-up bars need to be sturdy pieces of equipment that can withstand the wear and tear of regular workout regimes. For best results, go with pull-up bars made of industry-grade stainless steel, such as the Feierdun or ProSourceFit models on the list. These will last longer and are sure to give you years of service.

Another reason for picking a durable bar material is safety; unstable bars can lead to severe accidents, which may take fatal turns. Therefore, ensure that your bar material is sturdy enough to withstand the pressures of daily use. And also, go for the powder-coated variety as this protects against rusting and corrosion.

The Weight Capacity

Closely related to the bar material is weight capacity. Unless the pull-up bar is sturdy enough to withstand your weight, you are not going to be able to perform any range of exercises without risking a date with gravity.

So make sure you match the weight range of the bar with that of the person or persons who are going to be using it. Doing so is paramount for ensuring the safety of those using the device. From my list, the crown for the largest weight capacity goes to Feierdun and Ikonfitness.

The Attachment Location

For apartments, you’d do best to go with pull-up bars that are portable and can be attached to any doorway (like all models on the list above). However, there are specific points to be considered for this as well. Are you going to use it in the door frame or against the walls? Are the sides of the product padded (like the Feierdun product) or not?

Considering all these factors is paramount to ensuring that your attachment location doesn’t get damaged in the long run. Also, choosing a sturdy spot for attaching the device is essential to maintaining its efficacy. Of course, you can always choose to go with the ProsSourceFit model that provides the option of fixing the device permanently.

The Grip Position

Finally, the last thing that you should keep in mind while choosing a pull-up bar is the grip position. Always go for padded grips (case in point: the Ikonfitness model) as these will help to avoid blisters or calluses on your hands.

Also, keep in mind the range of grip positions that you’re allowed to use with your device. Multiple grip positions will enable the user to try out a variety of different exercises that target various muscle groups. In this category, the Iron Gym pull-up bar takes the cake.
