Best Weight Vest For CrossFit

I have been a long time follower of the CrossFit regime, and have found it to be extremely beneficial.

Whether it’s for my fitness, shape, or overall nutrition, CrossFit has been a faithful companion. But recently, during workouts, I’ve been feeling that dreadful notion that I’ve finally plateaued, and my workouts aren’t working out anymore.

I was really worried about how to restore the required challenge to my regime and make sure I remain healthy.

I reached out to the CrossFit community, and they were quick to point out the solution in the form of weight vests. Since then, I’ve never faced the plateau roadblock ever again and already swear by weight vests. And I’m sure after reading the following, so will you.

Howdy! I’m Michael Shaw. And today, I have for you a selection of the best weight vests for CrossFit. While these products are perfect for CrossFit, they are also suitable for upping the ante on any fitness program. And to aid you further in choosing the best vest, I’ve taken the initiative and created a handy buyers’ guide as well.

So, let’s get training!

RUNmax Pro Weighted Vest

RUNmax is a brand that’s no stranger to fitness enthusiasts. And this product is a prime example of the brand’s quality. The sleek, professional look of the products makes it attractive, but looks aren’t the only department where this product scores. Don’t believe me? Just read on to find out.

What I Like

If versatility is what you are looking for, then this is the right product for your needs. The vest comes with multiple weight options and changeable weights. This allows me to modify the weight level of the vest to match my workout. CrossFit subscribers will be delighted by the combination of flexibility and strength that this product offers.

I was particularly impressed by the adjustable fitting of this device. The dual straps don’t slip and keep the vest in place even during intense sessions, and the shoulder pads add to the comfort factor. Couple that with the best quality locking mechanism, and you’ve got a secure device suitable for any workout regime. And what’s more, there’s even a pocket for keeping your phone and water bottle!

Another feature that made this product stand out to me is that the weights are not only in the front or back but are evenly distributed. The vest even allows me to try out multiple weight combinations and find the ones that suit my regime. And as it is made from high-quality materials, you can expect it to last for a long time.

What I Don’t Like

The only point of doubt that I must mention is regarding the shoulder pads. These are not permanently attached to the vest and must instead be slipped under the shoulders during use. This means they can easily fall out and cause inconvenience. Although I must confess, I haven’t faced this problem yet…but decided to warn you anyway.

Pros:

  • Military design.
  • Weight pockets at both front and back.
  • Durable material.

Cons:

  • Shoulder pads may fall out.

Verdict

CrossFit can be a challenging regime, and this vest is a must for CrossFit enthusiasts looking to improve their strength. Durable, versatile, and with adjustable weights, this is one vest that leaves the rest looking bland. And as for the shoulder pads thing, you can take them out if you feel the need, so this shouldn’t be a problem for most people. All-in-all, certainly a top product to consider at a reasonable price.

Aduro Sport Weighted Vest

Aduro Sport has always been one of my personal favorites, and this time the brand has brought a stellar product that ticks all the right boxes. Whether you’re looking to gain strength, burn those extra calories, or just want to increase your endurance, this product can help out.

What I Like

The very first thing that caught my eye about this vest was the neoprene make that guarantees durable, long term service. I am an analyst by profession, and therefore always work with an eye to the future. And this product is one that I can see going places.

The vest is multi-demographic, which is to say it suits men, women as well as children. This makes it one of the most versatile products in its category. Further, the product comes with Aduro Sport lifetime warranty, which translates to complete peace of mind for the user (like me!). Add to that the adjustable front belt and back mesh pocket for extra weights, and you’ve for the perfect vest for CrossFit.

What I Don’t Like

There’s not much to complain about this product, and I don’t want to find a fault just for the sake of it. But one thing that I noticed was that the vest is a bit too bulky, which means you can’t wear it under your t-shirt. But then again, that’s simply something I felt rather than a real drawback.

Pros:

  • Balanced Weights.
  • Adjustable Buckles.
  • Breathable neoprene material.

Cons:

  • Slightly bulky build.

Verdict

If you look past the bulkiness of the product, then this is the perfect vest for CrossFit enthusiasts. The balanced weights make sure that you get a well-rounded workout, and the neoprene material ensures comfort and durability. And if you are ready to wear the vest over your clothes, then there’s no issue with buying this.

ZELUS Weighted Vest

As far as weighted vests go, this is one of the best for CrossFit followers. ZELUS has already made a name for itself in the fitness space, and this is one of their superior products. Perfect for weightlifting, running, and muscle building, this vest is reason enough to start working out.

What I Like

Just as the previous product on our list was made of neoprene, this one takes the build quality a notch higher. Premium chloroprene rubber is the material under the hood of this product, which allows it to remain elastic even under extreme conditions.

I can, of course, root for the exquisite craftsmanship of the product, or even tell you all about the iron sand stuffing that gives it an evenly balanced weight. But the one thing that stood out for me was the reflective strips on both sides of the vest. I like to go out for runs at night, and the reflective nature of the strips ensure I don’t run into any vehicles accidentally. This goes to show the amount of thought the brand puts behind their products.

No matter what form of exercise you are into, this product can take your workout regime to a whole new level. And it’s suitable for both men and women, which adds to its existing versatility.

What I Don’t Like

I would have appreciated it if the manufacturers had made it a point to make the weights removable. This would’ve given the device greater flexibility. I also found the product to be a bit loose, but maybe that’s intentional to ensure comfort.

Pros:

  • Premium chloroprene material.
  • Integrated pockets.
  • Weighted with iron sands.

Cons:

  • Non-removable weights.

Verdict

Three words: go for it. It’s only very rarely that a product comes along that offers this level of quality at such an affordable price. With its multipurpose adjustable build, comfortable and versatile design, and thoughtful reflective strips, this product takes the cake.

CROSS101 Weighted Vest

For CrossFit followers who want to get that military camouflage look, this is the product to go with. Unlike most weight vests that come in plain black, this one flaunts military motif in white and gray that steals the show. But that’s not all this product boasts of.

What I Like

Remember my only point of contention with the Zelus product? Yes, the non-removable weights. Well, this one takes care of that by ensuring all their models come with removable weights. This gives me the flexibility to adjust the weight levels according to my requirements.

Also, the product comes in a universal size that ensures anyone can use it without the need for adjustments. The product provides the user with variable weight options that range from 20 to 140 pounds. This means the product can match your strength level and change it’s capacity accordingly.

With both back and front weight pockets and an included manufacturer warranty, this product keeps very little to be desired.

What I Don’t Like

I was a bit disappointed to realize that this product doesn’t come with the shoulder pads, and they must be purchased separately. Apart from that, there’s really not much to complain about this rather excellent product.

Pros:

  • Removable weights.
  • Military camouflage design.
  • Universal size.

Cons:

  • Shoulder-pads not included.

Verdict

If the lack of shoulder pads has got you thinking, then don’t! I found this one to be an excellent product, and you can certainly use it for CrossFit training. The multiple-weights provide flexibility to the product, and the durable material makes it perfect for long-term usage. So if you are serious about your fitness regime, don’t give this a miss.

MIR Short Weighted Vest

The last item on our list is a MIR product, and that means fitness. For me, at least, MIR is a name that I can trust with my eyes closed. And this product is a testament to the company’s commitment to quality. Just read on and be the judge yourselves.

What I Like

Unlike the other vests on our list, this one is a short style vest, which means it covers only the upper part of the torso. Measuring only eleven inches in length, this vest is sure to stay nice and high on you and facilitate all your workouts.

The weights that come included with the product are genuine MIR solid iron weights. Each one weighs three pounds and can be added or removed as per your requirements. The vest also comes with adjustable straps that can fit anyone, and this makes it an absolute one-size-fits-all solution.

Made from durable material, this product includes weight pockets in both the front and back of the vest. This guarantees a balanced weight distribution. And for me, the lifetime warranty has been a real bonus.

What I Don’t Like

Quality-wise there’s nothing that can stop you from buying this product, yet the only snag I faced is during horizontal exercises. This manifests in the form of the vest moving out of place during, say, planks or push-ups. Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with the product.

Pros:

  • Adjustable weights.
  • Short, compact style.
  • Lifetime warranty.

Cons:

  • Not suitable for horizontal exercises.

Verdict

Unless you mean to specifically use this product for horizontal workouts, I’d say go for it. For my CrossFit regime, I’ve found this to be one of the best there is, and I don’t mean that lightly. Durable, compact, and balanced, this is one of the best vests to go with.

Choosing The Best Weight Vests-The Only Buying Guide You’ll Ever Need

So now, you are loaded with information about the five best weight vests for CrossFit…good for you! But my job doesn’t end here. Unless you know the actual factors that must be kept in mind when choosing a weight vest, you are bound to end up making the wrong decisions.

Therefore, to make sure that you don’t fall into that same dilemma, I’ve compiled a list of the factors that you must consider while buying weight vests. By keeping these points in mind, you’re sure to make the best decision while buying.

Let’s get to it then.

The Weight

For any weighted vest, the first thing that you should take special care of is the weight itself. This will depend on how much weight you want to add to the training regime, and also whether you plan on doing variable weight training.

Most weighted vests today come with removable weights that can be added and removed as required, but some, like the ZELUS item on our list, have non-removable weights. Also, some vests are weighted using metal weights, while others use sandbag weights.

Further, weights should also be distributed evenly at the front and back. So make sure you get the full information before making the purchase.

The Adjustability

When you’re buying a weight vest, you need to make sure it fits well. While most weight vests are universal in size, the adjustability of the straps plays an essential role in determining fit. Look for vests that are easily adjustable, like the Aduro Sport product on our list.

The Durability

CrossFit is an intense regime, and you need to consider a weight vest that can handle it. Make sure that the vest you buy is made from durable material; also, it’s better if the product is breathable and high-quality. From our list, you can consider the RUNmax, ZELUS, and Aduro Sport models for durability.

The Maintenance

Maintenance is one of the most critical factors that you should consider while choosing a weight vest. You are going to sweat a lot during a workout (I sure do!), and your weight vest is probably going to bear the brunt of it. So make sure you get a washable material that can be cleaned quickly and without much effort.

The Comfort

This is the last but the most crucial factor to consider. Crossfit is, by nature, a very intense workout regime, and you need to make sure you’re comfortable for the duration of the exercise. You certainly don’t want military-grade straps biting down on your shoulders while sweating it out. So be sure you don’t compromise on the comfort factor while making the purchase.

Conclusion: Picking The Best Weight Vest-How To Make The Right Selection

So, we’re again at that point in our discussion where things must be wrapped up. However, before I take my leave, I’d like to share some nuggets of wisdom about weight vests (even if I do say so myself).

Whether you’re on Crossfit or any other fitness regime, in the beginning, you proceed well. But eventually, after some time, your progress is sure to hit a plateau. And when it does, weight vests may be the best option to ensure the continued effectiveness of your fitness regime.

But be advised, when choosing to go with weight vests, you must remember to take into consideration your body weight. Your carrying capacity will ultimately decide the workout you’re able to support, and hence the ideal weight of the vest. The wrong choice can be harmful in the long run, so make sure you choose wisely.

And that’s it! Now, as always, I’d like to know your take on weighted vests. Do you think they are necessary? Or are you of the opinion that they are a fad that’s bound to go out of fashion? Whatever the case, be sure to let me know what you think.

Till then, keep workin’ out!
